Humanities Blog post: #10
Weekly Reflection:
This week went very well for me I got to finish many things for the end of the semester like blog post, and stuff I have to do for math.
Sometimes the class was a little out of hand but I worked threw it and got to finish a lot of things. But I think next time we should have more of the layout of the day and a more organized system because not everyone was on task. Some people who finished everything had nothing to do so maybe give the people who are finished with everything something to do or help the teacher with something.
Habits of a Great Learner:
How are we approaching our work?
Well depending on what projet your working on , you should come in already know what to do and finsih. So coming in to class ready to work.
How can we get better at “figuring it out”?
Checking what we need to finsih and checking on our teacher's dp's to see what we need to do for the week.
How do we keep track of our progress or ideas?
We can put all our work into our drive so it would be saved on there or write it down somewhere.
Final draft of your “What is your role as an astronaut on Spaceship Earth?” essay:
Thesis- My role as an astronaut on spaceship earth is to leave something people will always remember, show the world to put away their technology and look at this beautiful earth we live upon on. And to respect this precious life we have.
As I wonder upon this world I see many faces looking down, looking down at this small portable computer like thing. This thing I see has taken over something that was once there, but what? There life. There whole life sucked into this small portable computer. Some sadly, have accepted this small thing is there life. All you see is heads down, checking their “social” media. Watching pointless videos that are idiotic. But what if, what if we were to take these things from them. What if we were to show them what earth really was, show them reality. What if we show them the beauty of the earth? What if we can change their view, instead of a small screen we show them the beautiful sights of the earth, sky ,and sunrises. But has this small computer like thing taken over them too much to let them see? Or is it possible to let them see?
Some think our differences is what sets us apart from everyone, our color, what we believe, what we wear, and where we came from. Is this how this whole world started? We can’t all love each other because we are all different? Why can’t people accept the real us? Why must we do what they want us to do? If we do one thing they don’t like they judge us.They’d hate us. But if we do what they say they change. Are we willing to change for that one person? Or will you stand up and be yourself? Many are blind and don’t see anything or anyone but their own view of things. No one sees the beauty of this earth and has no respect of it, so they make it their own by destroying it and killing it. Blue skies became grey and filled with toxic gasses. The waters become black. Birds disappear replaced with plastic bags drifting through the air. Forests are gone and replaced with buildings. Places and people are destroyed after war's beginning and ending. Can we ever come together to end these horrible things? Or are we all to different to do something? Has our differences taken over too much?
Why are we looking for life on mars? When we don’t respect life on ours?
We are slowly killing this earth. Is that why we need a new planet? Is it to broken down to fix? Or are we to lazy and distracted to do anything about it? I guess it's more important to talk about politics than the destruction of earth. Will mars become our new earth? Will it be treated with the same disrespect as earth? This existence will die one day if we keep treating it with the same disrespect. Life's no accident, we are all accounted for, we are here for a reason. But for what reason? That’s for you to find out.

Weekly Reflection:
This week was not as stressful since for humanities this is our last blog post! But we still need to email mike to check four blog post we want graded on. So for humanities I will be revising blog post. For Brian's class we still have some that need to be done I am kind of behind on his blog post but I am catching up on them. Also I had to skip the astronomy trip since I had something to do and I didn't have the permission slip. I also have to start on the research paper for brains class, which will take a while to finish since I need to show sources.
Habits of a great learner:
How do we schedule our time to be most productive?
Well for the capstone project we have to sometimes schedule it around the weather so we have to find a date where it's good weather not where it's raining or if there's a storm coming.
How much do we rely on information from the teacher?
Well for this project we have to make our own times and dates we just have to communicate to the teacher if they can take us here on this date or if they can print out permission slips.
How much time is given to “working on it” versus “figuring out how” to work on it.
Well it depends what you're working on. If your going out for your capstone project and you a filmmaker you have to get film of whatever you're doing. If you're not going out and haven't done recent blog post then you could work on them. And if you don't know what to put on them you could just look at the teacher's portfolios to check.

Weekly Reflection:
This week was a little crazy since we just started our capstone project, I first chose nature but there were way more people in it then I expected and my thesis didn't really fit into it. So I asked Brian if I can change to astronomy and he said yes, So my thesis kinda talks about leaving my mark on earth and leave something that people remember and a question I got from a song i've listened to which is "Why are we looking for life on mars, when we don't respect life on ours? Also breaking it down was a little tricky to since you had to have a reason for it. But overall it was a very good week. But I would have liked a quieter work space because everyone was kind of everywhere and weren't doing much work.
Habits of a great learner:
How can proper tools save us time?
Well phones sometimes can if all the computers are being used and if you have to print or turn something in you can print from your phone and download the classroom app and turn it in, also you can work on your blog from your phone but you have to be doing your work and not on games or social media.
How can peers help us learn new things?
Well they can give us new ideas and another way to think about an idea or question.
What innovative methods can we discover?
Maybe we can have the capstone groups in their own section of the classroom so everyone can work on there own thing.
Final reflection from the rocket project
The rocket project went very well , the last launch was a huge success because my two other rockets i've made did fly as well my first prototype never flew even though we tried it around 4 times. The second launch was a little better it somewhat flew but did not go very high. The last rocket took the most time because we had to have precise measurements for the rocket tube. It took a while making the tube since my group messed up on the first two but the last one came out better it wasn't perfect but it worked very well. The fins took sometime to since the first fins didn't fit it right and was a little tricky to cut out on the balsa wood. But after we made adjustments it worked out way better. The launch was a fail/success , it was a success because it did launch and fly up instead of curving. It was a fail because our streamers didn't come out to make it come down slowly so the rocket hit this metal structure which kinda broke the rocket. (you could see the before and after on my physics page.)
Ideation and Brainstorming for Capstone Project
Why are we looking for life on mars? When we don't respect life on ours? Also making my mark on earth and leave something behind people will remember.

Weekly Reflection:
This week was a little more not as crazy , because my rocket group just had to finish our rocket film. It was sometimes a little hard to record our voice overs since other people had to record in the sound room. So we had to wait a few days to use it. Also finding music to go with some parts of the video was a little tricky as well because you didn't want music that didn't go along or didn't sound right. But I think the final music we chose was a good choice because its not to calm and not to over powering. Also the writing for collins and eklunds writing wasn't that hard but I did it last since I had to finish the rocket video.
Habits of a great learner:
How are we approaching our work?
What I do is see what needs to be completed, after seeing what needs to be completed I go right to work and trying to complete it on time.
How can we get better at “figuring it out”?
Looking at classroom and if you haven't finished your work you could work on that.
How do we keep track of our progress or ideas?
Well posting on our blog helps seeing what has been done and what needs to be done. Or putting it in our drive , so if we need something we can just go to our drive and get it.
Connect Collins to Eklund: How is Collins’ rockslide story similar to Eklund’s “stars reflecting on water” story?
Well they're both from real experiences, they both have poems in their writing about nature or the sky. They also both have pictures in their writing. They also both have similar writing techniques, well there format is not just a continued paragraph, they put different format , like for eklunds writing he adds poems into it and pictures and puts poems for some of the pages the starting thing to read. He puts the poems in different places sometimes to. For Collins rockslide story he puts a lot of pictures he put and drawings, also different fonts and sized fonts. He places his writing in different ways like some are curved in his writing. He plays around with his writing throughout the story. On each of the different stories each page talks about something different or teaches you something different. Each story is unique. Collins story kind of has poems as well with eklund’s. Each story shows there feeling and emotions which us the readers can see and feel when reading both stories. Alo since they show different kind of pictures you can feel as though you are there with them when reading.

Rocket Video:

Weekly Reflection:
This week was not to crazy but still a lot of work to do. We had to keep remaking our rocket tube and make bigger better fins for the rocket, the tube took the longest because you had to roll it to make a perfect tube and had to wait for it to dry, the tube doesn't look the greatest but its way better than the other ones we made. The first pair of fins we're to small and kept breaking and the design was to hard to cut out. So for the second pair of fins we scaled up the fins and made a new design for them which was way easier to cut out and looked better and fit the rocket as well. We still need to make the engine and make the parachute for the rocket and make the rocket stopper which will be hard because we already attached the fins onto the rocket. We also had to shave down the nose cone for the rocket and still make the shape of it. We also filmed a little for our rocket video but still need to do voice overs and we still don't know when we're going to do it.
Habits of a great learner:
How are we approaching our work?
Once we break into our rocket groups my group discusses what we need to do to make the rocket better or what we need to add to the rocket. We then help each other with the work and share the work load.
How can we get better at “figuring it out”?
Well for tools we can see how others use them and see try doing it they way they do it or for work we can look on the teacher's blog and see what we need to turn in or do.
How do we keep track of our progress or ideas?
Well if we take pictures we can post them onto our blog or put them in our drives.
Allegory of the Cave + Eklund Writing:
Once upon a time…
There was a red and purple rocket that was made out of cardboard and balsa wood
And every day...
It dreamt of flying
Until one day...
It finally did!
And because of this...
It was happy and had an okay launch
And because of this...
The people who made it made adjustments
Until One Day . . .
It flew higher
And ever since that day . . .

Weekly Reflection:
This week was a little crazy because we had a bunch of work from each class. So I had to balance the work out. Everyday I had something to work on like the allegory writing, the poem, rockets, and math work. But I did finish almost everything. This week was also fun because we got to build our rocket and I liked making my haiku poem. The poem is about the weather of the week and expresses on what's happening.
Habits of great Leaner:
How can proper tools save us time?
Well instead of cutting wood with scissors we have exacto knifes to help make it easier.
How can peers help us learn new things?
They can give new ideas that can help the group out and make the project/work better and give us new thoughts on it.
What innovative methods can we discover?
Well since im a laptop hound we can make a area where we can charge the computers instead of them being everywhere and not being charged.
What does plato's allegory teach us about natural law?

This week was a little more work we had to do but I think it was fine but some things were unclear than other things. I think we had good amount of time for both classes and almost everyone used the time wisely but I would have liked it a little more quiet so I can work more efficiently. But over all it was very good also the allegory of the cave was very interesting as well, it took about 2 hours for me to fully understand it and annotate it but I did finish when it was turned in and the video helped very much. But after the seminar I got more of an idea from other peers perspective.

How do we schedule our time to be most productive?
We schedule our time so everyone has time to do it and finish the work.
How much do we rely on information from the teacher?
We don't very much rely but when we need a document or a site to help us on our work the teacher will most of the time have it posted up or tell us what the site name is
How much time is given to “working on it” versus “figuring out how” to work on it.
Very much time for "working on it" because the teacher tells us when its due and keeps telling us for when we forget, We figure it out by reading the work but of course if we have questions we ask the teacher.
Weekly Reflection:
This week was very well. I finished many thing for class and for our rocket project. I used my work time very wisely and completed many things we needed to turn in. All turned in things are completed and I've worked on them all putting lots of detail to each piece I made. It was a little crazy because we had to finish poem stuff along with rockets. Our classroom walls were open up and everyone was working and it was a little crazy but I got thru it and worked very hard. My rocket did launch which I am very happy about and finished my groups happy and sad poem for class.
Habits of great leaner:
How progressive are our drafts?
Very much because after your first draft you could take more steps to make it better
Are we consistently improving?
Yes In work because we are getting critique on how to make it better and better and then we go back and revise our work
How can we make sure ideas work before building?
We can test out the idea or talk about the idea to different people and see what they say and go from there
What brainstorming methods suit us best?
I think when we write them on a piece of paper because we can always go back to them and see what we did

Humanities Blog post #1/#2: Intro
Reflection of the week :
This week went very well and very fast on the first day we went right to work to build our rocket and not play any name games which I'm use to but I did like this way better. I also am exited for this year and what comes and what projects we are going to be doing. I also liked humanities class as well and loved the freedom we have in the class. It was a very fun and nice first week of school
What aspects of our world have made you feel inspired, saddened, shocked etc?(Environmental, Human/Social, Academic, Emotional)
I’ve been inspired by famous musicians and olympians. Also what people have build like buildings, or cars, etc… It makes me feel that I can do the same thing.Things that make me feel saddened is all the different gender stuff i’m not hating the people but what it stands for. Also our not very great (at all) soon to become presidents, also everything that's been happening with the police and people being shot. Also the big flood that happened and the earthquake in itiali. Also people mistreating animals. Things that make me feel shocks is how easy someone can judge you for being you and they would only like you if you were like them.
Where do you identify similarities between our experiences? Differences?
We come to a point where we both agree with each other like if it's about rejection we have similarities about it like oh no one should be rejected or alone but we have different reasons why. For differences they could have experienced rejection differently so have a another reason
How do these experiences contribute to who you are today?
I feel what many other people are feeling but I find reasons and build on what is right and what is wrong.
I sit and look out poems:
Sad version:
I sit and look upon all the sadness of the world,and upon all cruel treatment and shame.
I hear secret violent sobs from young men, at harm with themselves, sorry, after deeds done;
I see, in low life, the mother harmed by her children, dying, abandon, thin, desperate;
I see the wife hurt by her husband - I see the guilty seducer of young women.
I mark the ranking of jealousy and love not returned, attempted to be hid, - I see these views of earth.
I see the workings of war, infection, cruel government, I see death and prisoners.
I observe a hunger at sea,- I observe the sailors casting lots who shall soon to see death, to maintain the lives of the rest on boared
I observe the slights and humiliation cast by superior persons and workman, the poor, and upon negroes, and the likes;
All these- All the lowness and pain without end, I sitting, look out upon,
See, listen, and I am sadden upon all.
Good version:
I sit and look out upon all the joy of the world, and upon all
love and peace
I hear songs of triumph and cheers from children,at delightful with
themselves, cheerful at one another;
I see, overjoyed life, the mother loved by her children, at peace,
adored,caring,blessed;
I see the wife respected by her husband—I see the ecstatic people loving upon one another;
I mark the emotions of true love and real happiness , attempted to be
Shared to all—I see these sights on the earth
I see the workings of peace,goodness, kindness—I see freedom and justice to all;
I observe beauty of the sea—I observe the sailors fighting for peace, to preserve the lives of the rest;
I observe the praise and cheers by helping persons upon
hard workers, the poor getting helped, and upon Negroes not judged, and the loved;
All these—All the joy and praise without end, I sitting, look
out upon,
See, hear, and I am happy once more.
Habits of great leaner:
How are we approaching our work?
We think of ideas of what we could do. We see how could we make it engaging.
How can we get better at “figuring it out”?
We can search it up or think about it step by step
How do we keep track of our progress or ideas?
Well we track it from the very first thing we've done and see how we could make it better and better and progressing thru it.
Personal Intro:
Hi my name is Melody Barragan, I’ve been in San Diego all my life and what I want to bring into the classroom is help making fun cool projects and give ideas. Something I look froward is to learn something that will help me in the real world and something new. In group projects I will do my part of the work and help others if needed. I also play piano and have a younger sister and a older brother who attends here which is in mike's advisory. I also like to doodle and paint with my family. I usually always doodle in class when there's one little blank side I would always draw something their. I also love the beach and animals and photography. I love taking pictures of nature and animals usually I take pictures of my rabbit (his name is Cody) I am also excited for taking pictures for this class and for projects. I always take pictures after it rains and try to find spider webs with little drops of water on them or flowers with rain on them. I also love to help my mom cook food. Me and my mom and grandma make food for special occasions. I also really wanna travel the world when I'm older and try different food around the world when I'm older. I really want to go to Tokyo, London, Hawaii, Rome, Ireland, upstate New York/New York City, and North Carolina.
